Murphy by Colin Edmunds

Bay Gelding 1985 14.2 hh by Racing Knight out of Dilly's Surprise

Murphy began racing under BHRC rules in 1988 at Chasewater. In 1989 he won one race and was placed four times in his five outings. Believed to have "road raced" and broke down. Sold as a knacker and turned out on a peat bog in North Wales. Eventually came sound and was purchased by Peter Davies of Llandysul and raced as a Novice with the Wales & Border Counties winning several races.

Bought by Colin Edmunds and between 1992 and June 1998 won 66 races from 6 furlongs to a mile and a half, being placed another 64 times. He was then retired sound.

For a little horse he was exceptionally fast off the gate and on a small track on good going was very difficult to beat. He won at most of the major tracks and still holds the track record at Penybont ie. 2.27 for the 9 furlongs.

Murphy was truly a great little horse, without a vice. He won races for many times champion driver Alan Jones, Colin's grandson Mark White and Colin's son Neil. He was never sick or sorry averaging 50 runs a year.

He is retired to the paddocks sound with his owner saying "I will never have another one like him"
