Season Opener at Amman Valley

Jump Straight to Results

The first race meeting of the trotting season, the weather was kind, the racing was good even though there was not a large entry. The Llangadog committee always make an effort to start the season off in style, there was a good atmosphere despite a smaller crowd than sometimes in the past.

In the first Nursery race Andrew Bevan from Builth Wells on his youngster Ithon Nitro shot out of the gate to lead for most of the race, but Greenhill Lillian (Thomas Rhymney) with the canny Mark Evans on board made their move on the final corner to claim the race while Meadowland Maverick (Jones Evenjobb) with novice driver Ollie Preece on board was third. In the second Nursery Andrew Bevan on his other horse Posezest went one better to claim first prize but in a much slower time, in second was the slightly erratic Talavary Zara (Preece, Llanddewi) while first time out Immortal Storm (Meaney Merthyr) was third.

The first race for the punters was the Novice where the favourite Lakeview Meg driven by Mathew Tromans for the Atherton Rees stable from Narberth claimed an expected win from new recruit Its All Over (Meaney Merthyr) while Purple Connection (Williams Llanwern) was third.

In the Grade B Oliver (OJ) Jones from Evenjobb with Precious Cargo (Gwatkin Evenjobb) surged to the front and despite the best efforts of the rest they powered home in front of Rhyds Backchat (Elder Blaencelyn) and Tyssul Pearl (Thomas Llanbister).

Lakeside Pan belonging to veteran owner John Elder from New Quay has made this Grade A his own over the last couple of years and again he, with trainer Wayne Elder at the controls, moved up a gear to claim victory for the third year in a row. In second place was the newcomer Chinatown Kolt (Jones Llanllwni) while Rebus (Thomas Rhymney) ran an outstanding race to be third.

Ithon Nitro moved up to the Baby Novice and ran an inspirational race at the front driven by owner Andrew Bevan from Builth Wells, this horse whose floating gait suggests he will be one to watch came home in front of new entrant Bad Romance (Eggerton Norton Canon) with Ceiron Blue Boy (Weigel Llanddewi Velfrey) claiming third.

The dash is always a popular race and this week it was Tyssul Pearl belonging to the Thomas family from the Lion, Llanbister who claimed a well earned victory for Emrys Thomas while No Mercy (Weigel Llanddewi Velfrey) was second and stablemate Makemeamillionayr (Weigel Llanddewi Velfrey) was third.

The next race meeting will again be at Tair gwaith on Saturday May 13th starting at 1.30pm.
